Gwin WINS Leogang men’s. BONKERS: Gwin, Atherton, Minnaar, Smith, Hill, Hart
Amazing scenes in Austria, Aaron Gwin has just destroyed the pro field. SHOCKING.
2011 World Cup racing is just getting more and more exciting every race, those boys are putting on one hell of a show!
What went on?!
Highlights:
The slick rooty technical woods sections claimed alot of riders, Barel, Neethling went down twice, Brosnan slid out.
Gracia 7th with some big style and a big moment in the top section costing him time.
Danny Hart on the ball again just missing out on a podium by an Austrian gnats crotch.
Sam Hill back on the podium where he belongs, albeit 9 seconds off the win, he has some work to do.
The rain held off and the sun made an overdue appearance. Gee commented that in hindsight he should have run with dry tyres.
Stevie Smith gets his second ever podium and best ever result. The Canadian Devinci rider put in an amazingly consistent performance over the weekend and didn’t get fazed by the pressure at all.
Minnaar bounced back from a poor qualifying run to keep the hot seat occupied for a while and has equalled Peaty’s 51 WC podium record.
The crowd went mental as Gee Atherton’s first split came up, nearly 3 seconds up on Greg and crossed the line in what looked like an unbeatable 3:46.294.
Bonkers is a word you could use to describe the crowds reaction to Aaron Gwins first split time. Nearly two seconds up on Gee, three by the second split.
Gwinny crossed the line in a 3:44.181, to a cacophony of noise that had there been snow around would have caused an avalanche for sure!
Aaron Gwin is unstoppable at the moment. He said earlier in the week that he is not going for consistency, he is going all out for the win at each event. Destroying the field like he did today is proof of his mantra. Mind you he is pretty consistent too!
PS. Yes that was Gee handing Gwinny his teeth after at the finish line!
