2014 Downhill World Cup Round 5 – Mont Sainte Anne Final Results

What a race. The course was around 20 seconds longer this year with a few new additions – making it one of the longest on the circuit. The sun was out today for finals making the course even quicker. Due to the rain earlier in the week the wooded sections were still pretty slick in spots.

In Juniors, Luca Shaw held on to the win, posting a 4:27.529, nearly 3 seconds up on Jack Iles. The win puts Luca up in the standings, but he holds on to the leaders jersey by 4 points.

Standings

1. Luca Shaw – 174 points

2. Loris Vergier – 170 points

3. Taylor Vernon  – 121 points

4. Amaury Pierron – 90 points

5. Jack Iles – 68 points

Myriam Nicole was out due to a wrist injury. Rider, Alanna Columb crashed off a drop after getting a flat and got a DNF. The women’s race was so tight within the top 3, and Tahnee Seagrave pulled a blinding run to get 4th. Micayla Gatto was holding great speed throughout the race ending up in 6th – a great result for the Pivot rider. Manon was back at the first two splits, but she put down an absolutely incredible run beating Rachel by +0.724. Manon now has 3 out of 5 wins for the 2014 World Cup.

Standings

1. Manon Carpenter – 1030 points

2. Emmeline Ragot – 870 points

3. Rachel Atherton – 850 points

4. Myriam Nicole – 662 points

5. Tracey Hannah – 622 points

The men’s race was nothing but spectacular yet again, a few people have been injured and we’ve seen quite a few crashes over the duration. Brook Macdonald went down losing a lot of time. Sam Dale also went down in the wooded section, sliding down and losing out on time before cruising to the finish. Charles Georges Pierre was flying down the course and managed to hold on when things went wrong, after winning the Mega Avalanche this year he suffered a flat in MSA.

The smallest of mistakes can cost riders, and the track in MSA is long and hard making it easy to make mistakes and suffer mechanicals. A lot of riders suffered flats during the race, with the track as unforgiving as ever. It was another case of dominoes as riders came down to knock one another off the hot seat. Sam Hill did it – his first world cup win in quite some time. Some absolutely outstanding riding today.

Standings

1.Troy Brosnan – 799 points

2. Josh Bryceland – 757 points

3. Aaron Gwin – 725 points

4. Sam Hill – 698 points

5. Gee Atherton – 610 points
