Wheel of fortune?

The “Wheels of Speed – World Downhill Challenge“ offers a chance for ambitious downhill racers to prove themselves against racers like Greg Minnaar and Cedric Gracia

Everybody is looking forward to the first weekend of June (1-3rd) when the tenth annual SYMPATEX BIKE-festival in Willingen will take place. The Wheels of Speed, a new addition this year, already promises to become a great attraction.

None the top downhill riders want to miss out on this race and its prize money as it also takes place on one of the riders’ favourite courses.
But this race will not only be an attraction for the international top riders, but also ambitious downhiller bikers are invited to sign up on the website.

This year the Bike Festival in Willingen celebrates its 10-year anniversary. For the past decade, it has been very important to the organizers to offer an exciting weekend full of attractions for every bike fan. This year they will offer the unique chance to all amateurs and pros to ride against the worlds’ best downhillers like Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar or Cedric Gracia. There will be two classes at the Wheels of Speed: amateur and pro class. The mode is as follows. There will be a general qualifying in the amateur class. The 40 fastest riders will move into the final. The top 8 in amateur will get a spot in the pro final as well as great prizes. The riders in the pro final will consist of the top 16 invited riders, the top 8 amateur finalists and 16 other qualified pro riders.

Any racer who would like to take part and measure their time against Nathan Rennie or Sam Hill should sign up immediately on the website: www.wheelsofspeed.de.

German racer and multiple German champion Markus Klausmann will also start in the pro class and is already looking forward to one of the best races outside of the World Cup calendar: “Downhill really needs such a race. There should be more high-level events during the year. They enrich the World Cup calendar and I am sure that a few riders will risk or show more without the pressure that they get at the World Cup.”

More information regarding schedule, registration, mode, etc can be found on www.wheelsofspeed.de. This site also invites the viewer to just browse through the portraits of the invited 16 riders as well as a photo gallery from past events.
