Truvativ launches Stevie Smith tribute bar

Long live Chainsaw

Truvativ has launched a series of four signature Descendant bars including one for the late, great Stevie Smith, with all proceeds going to the Stevie Smith foundation.

The other pros selected in the Colab series were Jerome Clementz, Martin Soderstrom and Kyle Strait, to give you a handlebar option no matter what type of riding you do. We’re big fans of Truvativ’s siggy bars, and named Danny Hart’s Blackbox bar one of the best of 2014 so we’re sure they’ll do the Canadian Chainsaw proud. Let’s take a look at each of the bars:

Stevie Smith

Stevie Smith gripped and ripped his way to the 2013 World Cup overall title to cement his place as Canada’s greatest ever mountain biker. His Canadian roots get a subtle nod in this with the red detailing and we love how his famous nickname is emblazoned front and centre.

They have been made available for sale with permission from Tiann Smith and all proceeds will be going to the Stevie Smith Foundation fund. The bars themselves will be 780mm wide with a 25mm rise, they will have 5° upsweep and 7° back. made from 7050 aluminium they will weigh 340 grams.

Truvativ said: “If you wanted to keep up with Stevie Smith, you needed to bring your a-game. And the chances were good that he’d still go harder than you. The Descendant Steve Smith bar commemorates the brilliant riding style of Canada’s greatest downhill racer, with go-for-broke style and a nod to the red of the Canadian flag.”

Jerome Clementz

Clementz is the owner of the only carbon bar in the range and it gives him a weight saving of about 120 grams. Paying tribute to his Loizo (l’oiseau) nickname, Clementz gets a bird etched into his bars with Cannondale green used to tie it all together.

750mm wide – 20mm rise – 5° up – 7° back – clamp diameter 31.8mm – carbon – 219 grams

Martin Soderstrom

Soderstrom brings Swedish minimalism to his bar with just a small flash of the Swedish colours splitting the all-black bar. It does also have the dates and locations of his three biggest crashes etched into it, which is a pretty unique feature on a signature bar.

780mm wide – 25mm rise – 5° up – 7° back – clamp diameter 31.8mm – Al 7050 – 340 grams.

Kyle Strait

Kyle Strait may be most famous for taking his hands off the bars in winning Rampage runs, but his bar looks to be something to keep hold of. Big and burly at 808mm wide, with a giant eagle spanning most of the width, this is a bar that screams Lyle.

808mm wide – 25mm rise – 5° up – 9° back – clamp diameter 31.8mm – Al 7050 – 349 grams

The bars will all be available in October with the aluminium ones costing £65 and Clementz’s carbon bar costing £135.
