the companies that took a punt on Aaron Gwin last year are now starting to reap the rewards as this is the second product we’ve featured that he’s helped design since joining the YT Mob.
Brakes have let down Gwin in the past so it’s clearly a part he’s keen to get right. In fact, TRP have been amazed at the sheer volume of feedback and attention to detail he’s been able to give.
As soon as he got the brakes, Gwin wanted a lever change. For a while TRP was running a different brand’s blades in his brakes for a while but they have now created their own set ready to race. After that, it was a series of incremental improvements to reach today’s prototype. Gwin could feel play between the pistons so that has now been removed and the cooling fins have been added. The calipers may look bulky, but 30 grams has been shaved off each one.
The brakes are due to go into production but further changes, such as a mud guard, may be added before they are released. Keep your eyes peeled around Sea Otter time for more information.
