We’ve got the National 4X Champs and round five of the national points series coming up at Redhill Extreme, Gloucestershire this weekend. Yesterday we gave you the lowdown on Spank/Chicksands rider Elliott Simmons, today big Max Lenthal gets the treatment.
It’s difficult to know where to start with Max because he loves it all. He started life digging and riding up at A1 trails, then got into downhill and 4X, and has recently been seen razzing about on a crosser. Finishing college for the summer he’s been out riding pretty much every day for the last few weeks, and is heading out to Canada two days after this weekend’s National Champs.
I remember queing for the gate with him at his first race, I’d not seen him before but I remember thinking, “f*ck me he’s built like a brick shithouse, I hope I’m not next to him in the gate”. Since then his confidence has grown as have his results, winning both of the last two Chicksands local races and finishing in the top three at the last three stops on the national points series. One of the most driven guys on the circuit, he’s got a pretty brutal gate on him and a few handy training partners in the likes of Elliott Simmons, Ste Simms and Tom Dowie. It’s not going to be an easy run for any of the Juniors this weekend though with Max, Elliott, Tom Knight, Jake Ward and some bloke called Bernard Kerr all capable of taking the win.
