Schladming WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION

The top twenty men have just come down the Schladming World Cup mountain and Sam Hill is currently in first place.

If it stays like this then here is where we are at with the overall points, and it makes for some interesting reading. Hill leads by 60 points from Greg Minnaar, with 200 points up for grabs for the win on Sunday. It looks like Minnaar must have gone down after the last split and before the finish, back in 19th position and only just in the points. What does this mean for the finals on Sunday? Well for Minnaar to take the overall he must win and Sam Hill would have to be in fourth or lower. For Hill to win, he basically just needs to finish in front of Minnaar, Peat and Atherton. For Peaty to take the overall he would have to win and Hill would have to finish in sixth or worse. If Hill crashed out or had a mechanical (ending up down the field) then if Peaty finished first with Minnaar in second, then Minnaar would still take the overall, but by just one point. Interestingly, if Minnaar wins and Hill comes in third they will be tied on points! I can’t think what would happen in that situation.
