Racing Returns to Baskerville Hall… Enduro this time around

Any of you enduro fans out there after a taste of what the new 2016 British Enduro Series (featured here) will be like? Well you better get yourselves down to the final of the 2015 Mondraker Enduro series at Baskerville Hall. Why? Well because the organisers of the race, Red Kite Events, are the people behind the 2016 UK national series.

And does Baskerville Hall ring any bells with any of you out there? For those of you old enough to remember it was one of the venues for the legendary Dragon Downhill Series… they are many, many stories from this place!

Here’s the Press Release from the organisers…

RACING RETURNS TO LEGENDARY DRAGON DOWNHILL
VENUE AFTER 15-YEAR HIATUS

Mountain biking returns to a sleepy corner of Mid Wales in October to a venue that hasn’t been raced for over a decade.

The steep woodlands above Clyro’s Baskerville Hall Hotel once hosted Wales’ legendary Dragon Downhill Series events.

Organiser Jason Carpenter (father of UCI Downhill world champion Manon) cancelled the series in 2008, citing a series of difficulties with the then Forestry Commission, now Natural Resources Wales.

Burgeoning race outfit Red Kite Events has now picked up the helm and will use Clyro (a private woodland used for off-road vehicle training) for the finale of their 2015 Mondraker Enduro series next month.

Red Kite launched the gravity-style series this year after a couple of test-run races in 2014.

This year’s events – held at Coed Trallwm trail centre and the Crychan Forest in mid-Wales – have garnered a reputation for being steep, tough and technically demanding.

But organiser Neil Delafield combines course technicalities with a relaxed atmosphere, ditching timed transition stages to create an event that feels like a day out riding with your friends.

The last time Clyro was raced in June 2001 saw the Atherton clan cementing their future on the race circuit, with Gee taking the top step in Youth Boys (Gee has never lost a race at Clyro – time for a rematch?!) and Rachel the fastest overall female rider.

Competitors in next month’s event (on Saturday and Sunday October 24th and 25th) will have the option of racing over one or two days, with two-day event competitors riding a mammoth 15 stages.

Neil said: ‘You can expect all stages to be pretty testing, but not as steep as previous rounds at Trallwm and Crychan. We’ve done some recces and have even managed to incorporate a stone staircase into the stages – it’s steep and long with a nice dog-leg corner, and pops out right into the race arena!’

Baskerville Hall Hotel will be used as the event HQ and will host the end of series party.

Online entry is open now via the Red Kite events site here.
