So, the first Qashqui Urban Challenge has ended and the winner of round 1 is none other than Darren Berrecloth. He goes home with
a pocket full of money and a score sheet full of points to put towards the overall title. Paul Basagoitia took 2nd and Kyle Strait showed he
wants to be in the hunt for the overall with a 3rd place finish. It was a pretty crazy weekend with Friday being a bit overshadowed by some
scary injuries. DMR’s Mike Smith tested his lid and his neck muscles when he decided to fall onto his head from about 8 ft in the air. It looked
totally gruesome but he has walked away with just a concussion. The same can’t be said for Aaron Chase who had everyone scared shitless
when he couldn’t feel his legs after dropping onto his ass from a super high and skinny log ride. It appears he will be OK (he has regained
most of the feeling and movement to his legs) but has broken his back and will be out for some time. Everyone is cheering for his quick recovery
as he is a big contributer to the life and soul of these events. So, see you later Newcastle and here we come Milan which is next weekend and
moves from the discipline of ‘North Shore’ to ‘Dirt’. It will be interesting to see who is in top spot there and if Milan gets the half the action Newcastle
had, everyone is in for a treat.
