FlyUp Downhill & Katy Curd team up to offer coaching

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone… Or something like that. We’re all guilty as riders of picking up bad habits as quickly as we try to lose them. As we’ve been saying for years, it seems bonkers that people will go out and spend in excess of £5,000 on a new bike, but get no coaching on how to get the most out of it.

Well an email has just landed in my inbox that’s got me quite excited. Our trusty local uplift service at the Forest of Dean (and, more recently Gawton), have just launched another side to their business – bespoke coaching services. They’ve got together with 4X pro Katy Curd, and it looks great. There are, of course, coaching services all over Britain, but perhaps none as versatile as this. Have a look below…

You have asked for it, and we have delivered – in style. Starting from the 23rd and 24th of March, FlyUp Downhill is teaming up with Katy Curd to bring the ultimate coaching package to you. Wherever you are and whatever style of riding you do, Katy has the skills, qualifications and experience to completely change the way you ride.

World Cup sponsored rider, 4X Champion, dirt jump pinner and passionate and talented rider, Katy has been racing at the top level for years. Whether it’s your first time on a mountain bike or if you’re an elite level racer looking for that extra tenth of a second, we are now offering a skills coaching package that caters for you. Want to boost your confidence, improve your skills or even just learn the basics? Tailor made coaching session can be designed around all your needs.

Coaching will be available at the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire or Gawton, Devon. With locations like such as these, not only can we offer the highest level of coaching, but also some of the most versatile locations in the country. Between them they provide tracks subtle enough for absolute beginners to learn the basics, or full-on, steep, technical trails for seasoned riders looking for a challenge. It includes (of course) an afternoon of back-to-back uplift runs to put what you have just learned that morning into practice. Factor in that Freelap ® timing equipment is included in the Gawton package, and you have what we believe is the ultimate day’s coaching.

Lastly (but definitely not least!), we’re very excited to offer ladies-only days alongside the regular courses. This is something that we at FlyUp and Katy both really believe in – and something that’s much needed. It’s no secret that mountain biking is a male-dominated sport, and all the ladies’ coaching Katy has done previously has been very successful. With this in mind, we’re planning regular ladies-only days at both the Forest of Dean and Gawton with the 9th April already labeled a man-free day at the Forest of Dean.

The day consists of a three hour morning session developing the key skills based on your riding ability, and after lunch it flows into an afternoon of uplifts with Katy following to round off your new skills – and your day.

If our locations are not suitable for you, get in touch and we can arrange to come to you.

More dates will follow in addition to the above, so if you miss out on these, don’t worry: there will be plenty of dates available!

So are you going to be rushing to book on? From the look of that, I might have to spend a day getting my braking technique and off-camber skills looked at. On that note, can anyone think of another sport where learning from the pros is so completely dismissed?! I’ve just tried, and I can’t… Anyway, for more information or to book call FlyUp Downhill on 07730217779 or email them at [email protected]

Happy riding!
