Marzocchi dropper post launched, will cost from £230

Suspension manufacturer finally launches dropper post that has been two years in development

Words: Dave Arthur

Suspension manufacturer Marzocchi has finally put its expertise into its first dropper post, which was unveiled at the annual trade-only Core Bike show earlier this week. The new dropper post will be available in two versions, an internally routed (stealth) model costing £259 and an external option, priced at £230.

The new post has been two years in the making. From what I saw, it is clear the company has put a lot of effort into it: it’s a very well finished product. It combines hydraulic internals with infinite height adjustment and a cable operated bar-mounted lever, with 125mm of height adjustment.

I had a quick play with it and the lever is pleasingly ergonomic, the lever travel smooth, and the post slides up and down very slickly, its action no doubt enhanced by the use of the Espresso coating that the company uses for its fork stanchions.

A neat feature is the easy removable of the cable from the bottom of the post, which means you can easily remove the seatpost. That’ll be handy for travelling when you need to dismantle the bike to get it to fit in a bike bag.

Reliability will be key to the new post because it’s up against the venerable RockShox Reverb, the undisputed market leader, but it commands a higher price, if you pay full retail. The new Marzocchi dropper post will need to be every bit as good as the Reverb if it’s to tempt people away from it.

The post should be available sometime in the spring, with just the one 30.9mm post size available at launch. More details, when they’re available, at UK distributor Windwave.
