Loic Bruni to miss Fort William and Leogang after training crash

Awful news

Is there a man in the world with worse luck than LOIC BRUNI?

Just weeks after he won his first World Cup in Cairns, he’s had a nasty training crash that left him with a broken collarbone and a concussion. Bruni has undergone surgery and is recovering well but he will be forced to miss the next two World Cups from Fort William and Leogang as he recovers.

Loic Bruni was lying third in the elite men’s standings after Cairns, and was no doubt ready to challenge Aaron Gwin for the overall, but it looks like that chance has now passed for this year.

In a post on his Facebook, Loic Bruni said: “Bad news mates, had a nasty crash training last weekend… Broken collarbone and a concussion. The bone was in several parts so just had a surgery and I feel better. I’m sorry to say that I’ll at least miss Fort William, Leogang and Les Gets. I will try to heal fast and to get ready for the rest of the season. Won’t be able to chase the overall anymore but I’ll be back.”

Thankfully there’s a month’s break between Leogang and Lenzerheide which should allow Loic Bruni to make a full recovery before he returns to racing for the final three rounds. Although the World Cup overall may have slipped from him this year, he will still be able to defend his Rainbow Jersey at the World Championships in Val di Sole in September.
