We’re generally against global warming, but if it means that we can ride in the Alps until December, maybe it’s not such a bad thing…

Les Gets has announced it will be opening the Mont Chery lifts this weekend for the second consecutive year. Mont Chery is a south facing slope and the snow falls have been paltry so far this year so it’s clear for us to ride.

The blue run “Piste des Biquettes” and the green run “Boucle De Clarines” will be officially open (but we’ve no doubt some off-piste shenanigans will be going down).

Champery, on the Swiss side of the Portes Du Soleil, has also opened up some of its mountain bike runs.

We think this is awesome. Hopefully it’s well attended again this year and helps to persuade the powers that be that they could extend the mtb season.

Morznet said: “It allows some of the businesses on the pistes to open, it help to sell lift passes, it provides revenue for the businesses in town and most importantly it gives people more options for activities. It also stops the slopes that are open from becoming too busy, as some people will opt to ride bikes instead.”

Forecasts suggest it will be sunny but snow is due on the 23rd, so it will probably be for one weekend only. If you’re in the area, don’t be shy in getting involved though, the blue is rapid and a great laugh.

The Chavannes side has had plenty of snow so will be open to skiers.
