The World Cup season is over and the accompanying Fantasy Downhill League battle has been won by a shrewd Kiwi team manager called Sarah.
But it’s not all about the winning…well it is most of the time…Dan Cole ,who didn’t win, sent over a funny story about the Fantasy League, Forfeits and Boxer shorts.

It may seem like a long time since the DH World Cup season ended, but for me (Dan) and two mates (Andy and Laurence) there was still one thing we needed to do to tie it up. Flashback to the first race at Maribor/Slovenia and the three of us had got together round a computer screen to watch the season begin on the live feed, we had also each entered a team into the Dirt Fantasy League.

Turns out we all picked Sam Hill and Rachel Atherton, both coming in to the season off injuries but both likely to do well on the 2010 courses. It was the lower priced workhorses of our teams that would set us apart, myself and Andy had both backed local ripper Ben Reid and whereas I picked Matt Simmonds Andy went for Ivan “lego man” Oulego Moreno. Laurence had gone for Kyle Strait and the fastest of Fin’s Matti Lehikoinen.

As we were listening to the build up to the race, bragging about how awesome our choices were we decided to have our own three way mini league, which meant prizes…or forfeits! With not much time to decide before the race started we settled on the losers (2nd and 3rd place) doing a run of our local track in their boxers. Sorted!

So we all know now that Hill and Rachel missed most of the season due to injuries, which put us all out of the running in the main Dirt Fantasy league, but it turned up the heat on our mini league. Pretty early on it was clear that Andy had a place reserved on the boxer run, thanks to “lego man” not qualifying or even making it to a few races. That left me and Larry to battle it out until the last race of the season in Windham, I emerged as the victor in this case. YeeHa

But with everyone being so busy, and broken bikes and bodies it has taken us until Mid December to organise the run of shame. I say the cold made it all the more hilarious, for me at least because I was well wrapped up and taking photos!
