Whistler Local Katrina Strand Rules Her Kingdom As Fastest Woman
WHISTLER, BC August 11, 2012 – Jerome Clementz (FRA) crossed the finish line after an epic day of racing all over the Whistler Valley and from top to bottom of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. He describes himself as a “little guy who rides bike and loves life” and he is certainly loving life today after clocking the fastest time at 36:46.23.
Second fastest Pro man was Curtis Keene (USA) +35.10 and coming in third was last year’s Enduro winner, Brian Lopes (USA) +46.27.
Whistler local Katrina Strand bettered her second place position from 2011 to dial in the fastest Pro woman time. Her time of 45:23.52 gave her an impressive lead over the next fastest women; Rosara Joseph (AUS) in second +2:02.98, and Katherine Short (CAD) +3:41.41.
The course was designed by Whistler local Richie Schley and featured varied terrain that favours the all-around rider. Enduro is a growing genre of off-road racing that pits cardio and strength against nerve and skill. The race design is fairly new to North America and uses a rally-style format involving four-timed “competition stages” linked by “transfer stages” not factored into the overall time.
