Canberra WC Race day:Flipper’s 5-a-day

No need for my input here .. these lads have it all sorted – double
sided placards to view more than one opinion determined by which rider
was passing at the time. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie … Oi, Oi, Oi.

It was Greg Minnaar’s show today … throwing some style in early
morning practice into the triple treat – the hottest spot on the hill
for the cheering crowds. Greg Minnaar rubbed it in the Aussies faces
by not only beating a charging Nathan Rennie but also reminding them
about their record defeat to South Africa yesterday in the rugby! Mr
Min won by over 4 seconds in a race that was being decided by
hundredths. And took over the lead in the overall.

After Tracy Moseley won in a skinsuit today, Rachel Atherton staged
her own protest on the podium. The crowd, however, in true Aussie
style noted that Rachel would look quite good in skinsuit.

Yes it was muddy today … despite promises from locals that it hasnt
rained here in months, it came down during the 4X and carried on all
night last night, and then was on and off all day. Pretty much just as
anything was about to happen the rain came down – just before men’s
qualifiers, just before women’s finals, just before podium etc. It was
wet cold and sticky out there.

Matti Lehikoinen is recovering after his crash the other day. Two
broken radii – is that right if you break radius bones? and a possible
scaphoid hairline fracture are going to put Matti out for another 2
months. That means in the 13 months the Finn will have been out
injured for 7! Get well soon Matti.

And now I am out for well deserved 4X while my camera’s dry out …
hopefully one of them comes back to life as it gave up the ghost just
before men’s finals. Yay.
