British Enduro Series 2016… confused yet?

OK, so there is some definite confusion going on at the moment with regards to the ‘British Enduro Series’ for 2016. Since the demise of the UK Gravity Series reported last week (here), it seems that two separate race organising groups have set up their own enduro series and that both are calling their series the ‘British Enduro Series’!

From our point of view the timeline went something like this: Early on September 14th we were sent a press release with all the information about a new series, the ‘British Enduro Series 2016’. The organisers are Red Kite Events, a well respected team who already organise road and MTB events around the country. They have dates booked and a series sponsor in Marin bikes. All was good. Then a few hours later a Facebook post pops up stating that the, “tried and trusted team of British Cycling’s National Downhill Mountain Bike Series (the BDS)” were also announcing a national enduro series for 2016, also called the ‘British Enduro Series’ (from further investigation it seems that this series was announced first)!

It appears that neither group (as yet) have affiliation to British Cycling (the governing body) or to the Enduro World Series. So what we seemingly have is two separate race series going head to head with each other under the same name, the British Enduro Series. Errr… OK! To add to the confusion the respective Twitter accounts are near identical too, @British_Enduro (Red Kite) and @BritishEnduro (BDS).

So what is going to happen? Are the two parties in discussion with one another? Will both series take place? Will one get BC or EWS sanctioning, therefore legitimising their series? So many questions.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens over the next few months. Watch this space…
