BOXXER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Every year at the Worlds, SRAM host a mechanics world championships, where the aim is to strip down and rebuild a pair of Boxxer World Cup forks in the fastest possible time. However its not as simple as that, the rules state that before they start the competitor must down a minature bottle of whiskey then on finishing must also sink a can of beer. The format is dual slalom, man on man, with the winner progressing to the next round. Therefore the more you won the drunker you got, and the slower you got, catch 22 maybe. Representing the Uk was old dog Tim ‘jaws’ Flooks and young gun Gary ‘gaarreee’ Mullaney. The Mc for the event was living legend Greg Herbold, who slipped into Don King mode and was pretty funny.

The competition was fierce and tempers frayed a little, especially the German dude who lost it completely when he couldn’t remove a seal, he slammed the fork leg on the bench swore a lot and stormed off, much to the amusement of the huge crowd. The Brits performed well showing the world they were no slouches at fork fettling or whacking back the beers, and it was no surprise to see an all British final of Jaws and Gaarreee.

The final was a frantic drunken affair with the young pretender just pipping the old timer to the post, to be crowned Boxxer World Champion 2007
