The beginning of the end for MTB e-bikes – Discussion

A few weeks ago we heard that the Moab Bureau of Land Management had banned the use of e-bikes on the MTB trails.

“The Moab BLM has determined that motor assisted bicycles (electric, gas or diesel) are motorized vehicles. Use of motor assisted bicycles is only allowed on motorized trails. Please visit the motorized recreation pages for trail information. The use of motor assisted bicycles is NOT allowed on mountain bike trails.”

This has sparked the question, is this the end for MTB e-bikes? Obviously e-bikes will always have a place when it comes to commuting on the road and are also making cycling alot more accessible to lots of people, but many people have some very strong feelings about them being used off-road, on Mountain bike tracks.

We want to know your thoughts on this, where will this leave e-bikes? Could this be the start of them being pushed out for good? Will this ban spread to the rest of the world? Will they begin to gain their own following and will we soon get e-bike specific trails?
