661 Gravity Enduro winner Rob “Box” Cooksley 2011

Rob Cooksley wins the overall of the first 661 Gravity Enduro.

We’ll have to get a video interview with Box soon. Here’s some lovely words by his mate Joe:

So there we have it people, the inugral SixSixone Gravity Enduro came to a close last weekend on the trails of the Wall at the Afan Argoed trail centre, amidst heavy heavy down pours of rain and high winds at times but in typical British fashion we all manned up to it and got on with the job.

I couldn’t for one minute imagine our European couterparts over the water dealing with not only racing in these conditions so readily but organising it so efficiently (well done Steve Parr). So good on all of us this summer who’ve had to just get out there in the muck and shit and race, organise, marshall etc it’s been a real acheivement. One exception of course was Eastridge Enduro which if the dust got any deeper some were going over to a full mud spike.

Not really knowing how things were going to pan out on the overall categories, it was pretty interesting to see the Masters cat emerging as the quickest, and with the first two rounds being won by Box he became the man to beat as the series went on. Not that he had it completely his own way with Round 3 taken by Chris Ball in Inerleithen Round 4 it was Neil “you better win on your local trail” Donoghue at Eastridge with Box second. So with two overalls and Two seconds counting the series was his.

Box say’s “I’m over the moon about it at 38 years old I feel lucky to have got on the back of this discipline that suits me so well, I just trained hard and really attacked each stage I really wanted it bad and i got it. I slightly over did the celebrations after Afan and my missus said she thought she was going to have to take me to hospital for excessive alcohol intake but she put me in the recovery positon and I slept with the dog.”
