A quick look at Pat Campbell Jenner’s big wheeled Salsa Horsethief.
29ers have been causing a bit of a stir-fry here at DirtHQ recently, we’ve got a great big wheeled feature in the latest issue of the magazine that’s well worth a read.
(I’ve Just noticed the common equine vibe going on.)
So in keeping with the 29 inch theme, here’s a quick look at Pat Campbell-Jenner’s Salsa Horsethief 29er bike.
The frame centers around shaped and hydroformed 6061-T6 alloy tubes. The double-butted hydroformed top and downtubes mate to a tapered headtube and a forged bottom bracket piece to create the strongest and stiffest front triangle Salsa has ever offered. The forged bottom bracket also incorporates the main pivot sleeve and ICSG 05 tabs. A 17mm alloy pivot axle running on sealed cartridge bearings links the rear triangle to the front. These bearings are housed in forged frame fittings that are welded to large, tapered chainstays. The chainstays terminate in a pair of forged dropouts that feature a 142 x 12mm rear axle system (RockShox Maxle). From the headtube to the rear dropout, the lower half of the Horsethief is a stout, stiff chassis that is designed to eliminate all side-to-side monkey business and keep everything moving up and down in the direction the suspension is intended to move.
Pat has only just built the bike up and tells us:
” I’ll be racing the Fetish Uk Gravity Enduro, and losing my Megavalanche virginity aboard this new Salsa Horsethief 29’r frame. 120mm of buttery rear wheel travel with 140mm up front.
I’ll be having help from Salsa, Halo, ODI, MRP and White Brothers in branching out into the new gravity style racing.
Alongside this I’ll still be racing 4x on the Identiti Krisis SL and the BDS on the new Identiti Mogul DH frame.”
