What are the UK’s most popular downhill trails?

Strava has the answers...

The Strava heatmap is back and this time it provides a further 10 terrabytes worth of data from ten million riders show where you’re hitting the dirt.

The map displays all bike activities so we just went to the places we love riding to find out which trails are the most popular. The answers probably won’t surprise you! If there’s one takeaway from this exercise though it’s that you all need to turn off your strava on uplifts! Let’s get into it.

(P.S If you want to check out the heatmap and see where people are riding near you, click here.)

Bike Park Wales

The uplift is the thickest line here and then from the top, Melted Welly and Vicious Valley get the most traffic. There also seem to be loads of people hitting A470 (probably because it can be sessioned by a short fireroad climb). A fair number of people are making it over the short link trail to ride Terry’s Belly too.

Down at the bottom, the blues of Willy Waver and Blue Belle are the most popular with the green practice trail being the least.

The blacks at Bike Park Wales look like the least ridden with 50 Shades, Enter the Dragon and Dai Hard all registering low – probably what you’d expect form a venue pitched at a wider range of riders.

Antur Stiniog

There’s actually a fair spread of riders at Antur Stiniog with the reds of Drafft and Wild Cart sharing the traffic. Of the blacks, Black Powder takes the most traffic but Y Du (the BDS track) is also popular.

Black Mountain Cycle Centre

It’s hard to pick apart exactly what’s happening at Black Mountain Cycle Centre as the trails are all so closely knit and intertwined. It’s clear that Rabbit Run is the most popular trail up top, closely followed by Red Dragon.

After the fireroad, most of the traffic funnels into Moto and then Berm Baby Berm as the tracks rejoin.

Forest of Dean

No surprise that Launchpad is the most ridden trail at Forest of Dean (ignoring the XC stuff). From the top, Corkscrew into GBU takes a lot of the traffic with a fair chunk also scooting down to Sheepskull. Ski Run, Endo and Mr Rooty don’t seem that ridden at all.

Revolution Bike Park

No surprises here that you lot bloody love the Freeride Line (it’s almost as bright as the uplift itself!). Red Downhill gets a lot of love but it’s nice to see Poop Chute, Ffar Side and Main Line also picking up some rubber.

Fort William

Pretty even spilt between the World Cup track and the Red. Tidy.

417 project

Honours even between Cheese Roller and Igneous (with the alternate options picking up some traffic too). The black run and four cross track both see some wheels.

Farmer John’s

A trail map like no other – start bottom right and end up… wherever. Farmer John’s is constantly evolving, just pick a line and ride it!

Aston Hill

We expected Surface to Air to be most popular but the Red trail takes top honours here. A good spread of traffic on all the other trails.

Surrey Hills

Your guess is as good as ours!
