Summer is here.

As soon as I can ride my bike I seem to become a terrible blogger. Its been spring here for a while and my life is back to normal. Today was day 3 in the bike park. It’s the same as last year….awesome. I love chairlift biking. It was a bit rainy today with no lineups. I love no lineups.

Last year I found a magical little zone to build a pumptrack and started building about a month ago. I called my partner in crime Andrew Gunn who is responsible for the deadly dual slalom course every year at Crankworx. Within 3 days we had the first loop dug. Our friend Jeremy Beken got involved and he cleared out all the shrubs in the whole zone. It looks like a park in there now. Being in the middle of Whistler, in a highly visible zone, it didn’t take long for word to spread. A week later we dug another loop in just a day with the help of many passers by. Now the whole world knows about it and it seems to have lost its soul. There is always people there, kids, moms, XC’rs , BMX’rs, anybody with a bike. I guess I was looking for a place to hang out and share with just my friends. Does this make me selfish? Next time we’re building a shitty one so nobody comes back.

For the 4th year in a row a small group of us got together to work on the village dirt jumps by the skatepark. This year was the first year we didn’t rebuild them in a monsoon and it really shows. Another first this year was closing the jumps after we were done to give them time to set. This has resulted in the best jumps in the past 4 years. Last weekend there was a jump jam there. I went by there to find probably 30 kids, all about 15 years old with tight pants, bright colours and super wide bars absolutely shredding! I couldn’t believe the skill these young kids have. I had a rigid Marin Bear Valley when I was 15. Lucky kids. My friend Todd who is head of WORCA ( Whistler Off Road Cycle Association ) was taking pictures there and was nice enough to let me use some for this feature. He mentioned that he’d hunt down and kill any picture thieves.
