Touching words from those who knew him best

We woke up in shock this morning to the terrible news that Stevie Smith had PASSED AWAY following a motorcycle accident near his hometown in British Columbia.

stevie smith – a tribute

We still haven’t found a way to express this tragic loss properly and Stevie Smith will be sorely missed by the entire mountain biking community. Friends, teammates and competitors have all paid tribute to Stevie this morning and here are some of the most touching:

Devinci

The Canadian brand with the Canadian champion. It was a match made in heaven now sadly broken.

Downhill Racing lost one of the greatest of all time today. RIP Stevie, you will be missed. #longlivechainsaw

Brook MacDonald

MacDonald and Smith were teammates from 2009-2011 and remained friends ever since.

The news you never want to hear losing a great friend, the times I had with you Stevie will be cheerished for along time I remember the 2 years I was on MS Evil with you was the best 2 years I had you teached me so much and going on to win an overall and multi world cup wins made me proud to say I rode along side you ❤️ Rest in peace my friend you will be missed

Wyn Masters

Simply the most important Wheelie Wednesday ever.

The type of guy Stevie was, a flat ruined his race in Cairns whilst sitting 2nd overall in the WC, instead of dwelling on that, he busted wheelies for the crowd! You own this wheelie Wednesday bro. #longlivechainsaw ???? @svenmartinphoto

From one Whistler legend to another.

Gee Atherton

Gee and Stevie were fierce rivals on the track – especially in 2013 – but all of that pales into insignificance today.

It's been an honour to have battled along side such a fierce and talented guy as Stevie, whether it was filming, riding or racing , he always charged! we've lost a real hero.

Loic Bruni

So sad to hear that Stevie has passed away! He was such a rad rider and a bad ass dude! Luckily I got the spend a year with him as team mate, travel the world and share many great moments. Like this one when he wasn't afraid to jump out of the car on a safari to get photo taken with the rhinos! #LongLiveChainsaw #ripstevie
