MY FOAM PIT

Some of you have been asking about foam pits Well here’s a pic of mine. She’s pretty basic but great fun. If you wanna make one here’s a quick low down.
Mine is 8’ by 16’ and 4’ deep (2.4m by 4.8m, 1.2m deep in new money, but when you buy the sheets of ply they generally refer to them as 8 by 4’s)
Actually its not plywood, its called something like fibreboard or something, any way its dead cheap, about 6 quid a sheet for 12mm thick
Then you need a couple of lengths of 4”by2”(that’s wood to you) to hold it all together.
I got my foam, well there’s sort of pillows in there too, from a local upholsterer, I gave him £40 quid for 4 van loads, but I reckon you could get it cheaper. Thing is, it takes a bloody lot of foam even for a small pit. Also I think it really needs to be in cubes, mine contained a lot of flat sheets of foam and they tend to compact slightly, not allowing the bike to sink in. All you got to do though is bundle the sheets up into squares and tie them up.
So total cost was about £80. not bad
Then you need a wooden kicker. I made mine out of plywood this time, bit stronger. Think it cost about £40, but its bloody useful, fits in the van, and can take it any where there’s a down slope.
That’s it, give it a whirl.
