Summer is here finally….for today any ways. The best race series in the world started a few weeks ago here with a bang; Phat Wednesdays, or the beer league as we call it. Reasons why this is the best race series ever? 1. It’s in Whistler and I don’t have to travel anywhere. 2. Track familiarity. 3. It’s only $2 to enter. 4. It’s ultra competitive. Whistler locals rip and there is always a huge crew of fast forigners here. And lastly you can win money to buy beer for all your friends after the race. Over 200 people showed up to race down B-Line. For the past 2 years we have organized our own chainless class for the real bikers ’cause thats how we like to ride B-Line. All the chained riders on the podium were heckled and boo’d, it was awesome. Public urination, broken glass, testicle showing, face punching, more broken glass, too many shots, drunken riding home, and trampoline sleeping followed.
The bike park is experiencing summer conditions. We could use some rain. Giant wheel sized holes are appearing and the death marbles are coming out. A new trail is being cut this week to be used for the Canadian Open course at Crankworx. Its going to be right under the lift for max viewing and heckling. The most exciting thing popping up right now in the park is the dual slalom course. Gunner, Chops and Marty are doing an amazing job again constructing it and it should be a treat to ride.
I just started week 1 of 5 coaching the Summer Gravity Camps and it’s been great so far. The energy kids have and the ability to bounce of the ground repeatedly never ceases to amaze me.
