Shimano’s new XTR platform SPD pedals have come closer to knocking these DX’s off the top spot than any other offering, but these still retain the title. They might not be light, but they’re about as reliable as an SPD pedal gets and the platform is big enough to make a difference when not clipped in. The area where I think these really win over other designs though is the ease in which you can clip in and out, even in mud, and how positive it feels. You just really know where you are with these pedals, and for those of you who like to run them either super tight or loose the adjustable spring tension is also a welcome bonus. If you’ve got the money and are looking to save some weight on a trail bike then the new XTR’s are probably the way to go, but for DH use and value these win hands down every time.
