When it was first introduced we included the Session in the Dirt 100 as one of the best deals around, but now a few years later we find ourselves with this seven grand super machine that is never going to win any price battles…but as a certain American has proved (World Cup champion Aaron Gwin) it’s more than capable of winning races.
We don’t for any minute think this latest carbon version is the bike for a casual privateer (go for the aluminium version), but if you want what is undoubtedly one of the quickest bikes down any kind of DH track then here it is. The way it carries speed is remarkable and the engineers at Trek have done a great job of improving the suspension and shock even further, it’s a definite wheels on the ground kind of bike.
The changes that the new adjustable geometry offers are subtle, but we kind of like that because it was so good already. Oh, and apart from being even lighter than before this carbon version deserves special praise for its attention to detail. It is nothing short of sublime, just the cable routing for instance is a lesson to all other companies of how to do it right.
