ONZA TYRES 2013

If you were riding in the 90’s then Onza tyres will bring back many memories, in particular their Porcupine model. The Onza name then went very quiet before eventually emerging again as a trials bike brand under different ownership, and then a couple of years ago a Swiss company bought the rights to make tyres under the Onza name. Their tyres are now available in the UK and from our first impressions of them on test bikes we’re pleased they’ve now made it over here. They seem to have hit the nail on the head with tread patterns, particularly with the Grenia, which is a superb mixed conditions tyre, and they’ve done a great job with rubber compounds too. Most of their tyres use a dual compound, but it’s the way the rubber rebounds slowly that we really like. There are various different casing and compound options, but be cautious about going for the lighter casings as they are on the thin side. Aside from their trail and DH tyres there’s also the Roger Rinderknecht designed dirt jump tyre which is perhaps best described as an Intense ‘not so’ micro knobby.
