Pull-In Race clothing

New clobber from Europa

Fresh into the office and ready for the season ahead is a box full of riding kit from French brands Pull-In and parent company Kenny. They’re both new brands to us here at Dirt and have a pedigree in the MX world so we’ll take a look at how this all translates to the world of mountainbike kit.

Pull-In Race is owned, produced and distributed Kenny Racing and is available here in the UK directly from www.kenny-racing.co.uk. With roots in MX, Kenny have a sound pedigree with their own clothing (which we’ll feature shortly) and for development of this off shoot brand Pull-In Race. With plenty of established brands out there (TroyLee, Fox, Alpinestars etc), UK distributors Spitfire are hoping there are riders who are looking for something a touch different and more individual without compromising on quality and design.

RACE MTB JERSEY

It’s a straightforward name for a cleanly designed long-sleeve jersey that’s available in six colours. There are low-key more reserved colours and designs as well as the brighter, louder style we have in for test. The 100% Polyester fabric has a good degree of stretch and a smooth finish. It has a quality feel to it, with a well designed and finished neck and lycra bound cuffs. The arms have a raglan cut so the seams are well placed, and mobility (in combination with the fabric’s stretch) is very good. We’ll have to put it to test but we feel this fabric may well work over a broad range of temperatures better than most. Its closer weave may well be what’s needed in our changeable UK conditions.

There’s very little else we would add on this type of jersey. Maybe a small security pocket or a goggle cleaning patch on the inside?

The cut is more of a closer fitting trail/enduro fit and we feel a lot of kit is heading this way size-wise, even DH specific clothing. If you’re always between sizes then maybe go up a size on this brand.

A well made, high quality long sleeve jersey with a distinctive style that looks suitable for DH through to trail riding.

TEST UPDATE: 19.05.16

With a spell of warmer weather here in the UK we’ve been out testing on a regular basis. This Pull-In jersey has been an instant hit… the smooth fabric has proven to be a great choice being both cool on the skin yet reasonably wind resistant when out on a hill top. The long sleeves have added a touch of protection from the sun without overheating and we’ve been impressed at just how the fabric lifts moisture and dries very quickly. The cut is good, with the right length (front and back) and a well shaped collar. The elasticated wrists mean the sleeves can be pulled up when things warm up but we’d like another 2cm on the length ideally.

A very straightforward yet stylish riding top with an excellent cut and a high performing fabric. It’s sure to be a favourite for the summer ahead and into the autumn.

RACE MTB SHORTS

Straight out of the box these shorts have a robust and hard wearing feel to them. A tough Polyester/Nylon fabric is used on the outer, with a ventilated stretchy lining on the inner. The shorts are constructed from plenty of panels, allowing for a good fit and the black stretch panels on the legs and rear of the waist help with mobility too. The waistline is adjustable with Velcro straps and Pull-In have added some stretch to work with this. Belt loops are standard too as an added bonus.

We like to keep things minimalist when it comes to pockets on shorts, nothing’s worse than things banging around your legs when pedalling hard. Pull-In spec four pockets. A cargo pocket on each leg and two further zipped horizontal pockets just below the waistline should cater for most rider’s needs both on and off the bike. We’d rarely, if ever use the cargo pockets but hey, they’re there if you need them.

With a 12.5″/32cm inseam on a 36″ waist short, these sat well on the knee and should work with most kneepads, although we’d like an extra inch in length if we were being picky. The waist sizing is similar to that of our favourite TroyLee Skyline short and if in doubt, go up a size.

A robust feeling mid-weight short that’s well stitched, with good adjustment and a quality lining. On all but the hottest days this looks like it could be a sound choice. We’re looking forward to putting them to the test.
