We’re big fans of Renthal here at Dirt with this UK brand taking regular slots in the Dirt 100 with their Integra stem and carbon Fatbar. Here we take a look at their latest trail/enduro stem in a new stubby 31mm length.
The Apex stem was launched back in July 2014, and although it sits alongside their established (and much loved by us) Duo stem, it soon found a place on our trail and enduro bikes. That was over 18 months ago now, and in that short period we have seen some real changes in frame geometry and sizing and when this 31mm stem arrived its timing was spot on.
We’ve always run short stems on our bikes here at Dirt, with 50mm lengths being fitted in place of the overly long stock choices we often find, even in 2016. With the bigger 27.5″ and 29″ wheels we found that going shorter still, got the handling dialled and added even more stability. Riders have also been up-sizing, getting more reach in the frame itself and then adding as short a stem as possible.
