We’re loving everything about about this new bar and stem from Kirk Pacenti. From the eight degree backsweep and five degree upsweep to the 800mm width and beautifully crafted stem. Crucially the ‘dented’ bar allows for a crazy 25mm stem with ample range of forwards and backwards adjustment for rider of all heights and widths. The stem is a precise piece of engineering and the finish is impeccable and easy to adjust.
But whats it all about? Short stem’s are not new but the shortest that most stems are currently available in is about 32mm because of the stem and bar occupying the same area as the fork steerer. Yes Mondraker have stems mounted above the steerer of many of their ‘forward geometry’ bikes however this does often put the bar height quite high for some riders.
Offering a 220g carbon bar and 140g aluminium stem the set up will allow riders to size up on their frames which in turn will allow for greater stability and space on their bike. Now this in itself is a huge subject which we will not go into at this point, and will currently be of only of significance to shorter riders due to the scarcity of bike sizes for riders over six foot.
What the Pacenti stem ultimately allows for is greater experimentation of body weight positioning on bikes particularly trail and enduro bikes. This is of big importance on descents and climbing alike. The impact on steering that this new stem allows for will be something we look forward to experimenting with over the coming months.
For now folks here’s some snaps…prices are going to be around the £200 mark for the combo’.
