Wedged into the back of my Peugeot 106, and keeping the wheels moving on the Dirt test bikes, this tool kit has been invaluable. Consisting of:
Four piece wrench set that includes a cassette remover, whip and pedal spanner
Long arm ball point hex key set
Screwdriver set
Combination 8–piece metric wrench set
Deadblow hammer – got to love that one
Cable cutters
7–piece 1/2″ ratchet wrench set
Dragonfly chain rivet extractor
Tyre levers
Clam (disc brake gap measurer)
Magic oil
Within the sturdy box comes several layers of organizing trays that hold a considerable amount of useful stuff, plus the usual junk that finds its way into these treasure chests. And it is one hell of a booty, pretty much everything you need for general bike maintenance. Neither too big or too small, the Birzman box has now been in heavy use in the back of my car for nearly two years. Unlike many boxes that crack the case has proved durable, although the catches do sometimes come loose when abused, still they continue to work correctly.
As for the individual pieces they certainly are well engineered and of excellent durability. They don’t appear to be faltering material wise either. The metric spanners and special cycle tools such as cassette spanner have a nice rubber protective finish, as do the screwdrivers.
All in all the entire box has had use at some point and is not laden with superfluous junk. At £314 it’s not cheap, but you should have a box that will last…well forever if you look after it. I certainly haven’t looked after it, using many of the bigger pieces for unlawful use. Can’t do without it.
