Funn have sent us over their new front end including the Strippa EVO stem that was launched at Eurobike this year. Let’s take a look..
Since forming in the late 90s, Funn have become a popular component choice for World Cup racers and casual riders alike. In Val di Sole 2008, it was a pair of Funn bars that Sam Hill dragged into the dry turf on the inside of the last turn and even today, our Propain Dirt Zelvy team runs this Taiwanese brands kit.
Funn are now entering their 20th year as a company, Funn offer a great range of componentry from seatposts to headsets to cranks and have been among our favourites in the past.
We’ve been sent their new cockpit – the Black Ace handlebar, the Strippa Evo stem and Hilt grips. Let’s take a look.
Strippa EVO Stem
Redesigned and released at Eurobike this year, the Strippa stem is looking sturdier than ever. With 31.8 and 35mm options as well as 35 and 45mm lengths, there’s a stem to suit all enduro rides here.
It’s a well put together piece with some sweet CNC marks left showing and you feel it’s a fifty quid investment that will outlast a lot of other parts on your ride.

Hilt grips
A nice and affordable upgrade on your standard pair of grips, the Funn Hilts offer both waffle and mushroom style grips. We prefer the waffle in the palm and the mushroom under the finger.
The single clamp design is becoming more and more popular over the double clamp as it offers grip right to the end of the bar, something Funn has covered here.
There is a deeper waffle on the Deathgrip and a softer compound on the Ergon GD1 but for the price, these are a great find.

Black Ace Handlebar
The alloy Fatboy has been one of our favourite aluminium handlebars for years but if you want some carbon Funn on the front of your bike then the Black Ace is the way to go.
Bars are a good way to dip your toe into carbon if you’re a bit of a sceptic and with plenty of options, the Black Ace will have yuo covered.
We’ve got the 31.8mm clamp, 5.5° up, 8° back, 15mm rise version that came in under Funn’s quoted weight of 196 grams. All the bars are 785mm wide as well giving plenty of room to manoeuvre.
