Dirt Office Bikes

Big Mikes NS Majesty bike build. Dirt Magazine editor Big Mike talks us through his jump bike build.

We’d received this NS Bikes Majesty frame quite a while ago now, and finally we have completed the build…and she is amazing.

It may seem shallow, but I was first drawn to the Majesty because of the great paint job that faded from matt black on the front triangle through to gloss black. Now liking a bike just because of its paint job is pretty shallow, but on closer inspection the frame just seemed right. Small, tight and compact, with clean lines and good features.

We’ll be having a full test on this bike (and a load of others) in an upcoming issue of the mag, but I‘ll just give you a quick run down on some of the key products. We went for the complete NS finishing package of bars, stem, pedals and hubs (the front hub comes with no disc mounts, so back brake only). Sun Ringle rims are bombproof, Intense Micro Knobbly tyres are rulers, integrated headset, some classic Gusset Reynolds 853 cranks we had in the office, an old Charge DJ saddle and Truvativ post, half link chain, a pretty old XTR disc brake and Charge grips.

The gearing was interesting (for us). We normally have gears on our bikes here at Dirt and it took us a while to work out what was needed to go with the 10 tooth rear cog…it was a 22 tooth front. DMR came up with the goods.

The bike is super light, around 26lb, and that is partly thanks to the RockShox Pike forks. They are not dirt jump specific, so it will be interesting to see how they hold up. All we need to do now is to get it down the trails a bit more. It has passed the bunny hop and roll back tests (!) in the car park, and Jon the designer has ridden it down the trails once. He texted me straight away, “she’s a beauty…makes other bikes feel wooden in comparison…she floats…so much soul in this one”

Watch this space.
