The team recently made its final trip of the season to the Indonesian island of Bali, host of the 2013 Asia Pacific DH Challenge. As this was the last race of the season, everyone went back home to Australia, New Zealand and Europe after the long wait at the airport.
The week began with sponsorship commitments at local bike shop Rodalink where a meeting and greeting session was held. This unique opportunity gave our Asian based supporters an opportunity to come and visit the team, get photos with the riders, see the team bikes in person and ask any questions they might have. Also held that evening was a limited viewing of the team video, A Racer’s Dream, which was met with a warm reception and a lot of interest.
Racing kicked off on Thursday with a track walk, followed by practice sessions on Friday and Saturday with racing being held on Sunday.
Once again the locals put on an amazing display with the passionate crowd thrilled to see some of the worlds best racers in action. There was a lot of support for anybody riding a Polygon, a testimony to the companies involvement in Asian cycling.
The dry and dusty track proved a challenge with many crashes throughout the weekend. Our team were able to capitalize on a strong World Cup season and continued the flow of results with Tracey taking out the female category, as well as placing 12th in the Elite Men category (2.29.376).
Filling out the podium was Fabien in 5th place (2.19.318), and Guillaume in 2nd (2.17.322), 0.9 seconds off the winning time set by Troy Brosnan.
After racing the team departed for a break to the Gili Islands for a few days, an island heavily populated by Polygon bikes with no presence of cars. To wrap up the teams trip to Bali we finished with a day of filming and photoshoots with Tracey and Fabien modeling the new Bluegrass Enduro helmet and Guillaume getting wild in front of the camera on his DH bike.
Overall it was a very successful trip to Bali for the team. The fine balance of sponsorship commitments, racing and relaxation was a great way to call the end of the 2013 racing season. The team would like to give a special thank to Polygon for looking after them in Bali and making this trip even more special.
