Back in the hazy lazy days of Summer (remember those?! Being in Wales, I don’t!), anyway Gaëtan Rey and the Shaperideshoot crew filled up their jerrycans with petrol, hired a generator and set of halogen lights then headed off up the woods.
Here’s what he says:
“In June days are the longest of the year. But it’s not enough light time for Benoît Gurnel and Vincent Tupin to get tired riding.
That’s why we spent an entire night deep in the forest with them to shoot. At first it sound like a really good idea but when you see the amount of material you will have to carry down the woods because there is no car access it’s different.
It had been a lot of work to think about the shots and to prepare them with headlights only. It was also difficult for the riders because we could light only a small part of the trail at the same time so they had to start and finish each take in the dark. We worked from 10pm to 5:30am the next day when the sun rose. It had been the most tiring filming we did but the result is a good reward!”
All you need is a generator and a couple of miles of leads!
At night nobody can here you scream. Well they might but they’d probably think it was an owl fighting a badger or something like that.
