Some quick news for you here. I’ve just been on the phone to Ian Bray from MIJ Downhill Events and the news is that they have organised three uplift days and have a possible race series in the pipeline.
Ian was very enthusiastic about the future and talked about a number of different race venues and formats.
The uplift days are November 29th, November 30th and December 13th 2008 all at Taff Buggy Trails. For more info and an uplift entry form clickety HERE
Here’s what Ian told us:
“Great news for the Downhill fraternity!!
Downhilling will not be disappearing from the Welsh valleys. M.I.J. Downhill Events have quickly and successfully negotiated a deal with some of the farmers in South Wales and as soon as the 28th & 29th November 2008 will be running uplift days. In the spring of 2009 they have already planned a mini series and if this takes off, initial reactions from those in the know, says it will, they will look at running a few series at different venues.
The first venue is the much loved, but lately forgotten gem that is Taff Buggy. The 3 guys at M.I.J. being Martin Henry, Ian Bray and Jon Davies along with a few much appreciated friends are rebuilding the current track as you read this and are also looking at putting in new sections to extend the course. New courses at Taff Buggy are also in the pipeline.
The landowners at Taff Buggy have been fantastic and are supporting us all the way, they are keen to see the return of Downhill events at their venue.
The people at M.I.J. have taken all aspects of Downhilling into consideration, the need to appeal to beginners as well as experienced racers, the laws concerning uplifts and the cost. As each of these guys are not relying on this to make a living the uplift days are currently going to cost in the region of £17.50! and they are trying to keep the race weekends under £50.00!!
Although M.I.J. are newly formed they are not new to the Downhill scene, between them they have over 25 years involvement in the sport.”
