Official Press Release
On November 17th, 2007 the East Coast Gravity Cycling community came together to support fellow rider/racer Tara Llanes. Over 75 people, consisting of a who’s who of east coast riders and industry folk, drove from 9 different states for a chance to support and ride for fellow racer/cyclist Tara Llanes at Lars Tribus’ not so secret spot “The Proving Ground”, in NJ.
All of the pre-event buzz was intentionally conducted by word of mouth. “This, unfortunately, was a necessary call that I had to be make to ensure the safety of all the riders as well as accommodate parking. Had I been able to publicize the event, I believe we could have easily doubled our turnout because there was such an overwhelming response from the cycling community” commented owner of the Proving Ground, Lars Tribus.
The event was a huge success. Special thanks go out to my local crew (Doug, Steve, Leif, and Buck) for hundreds of hours of trail work, as well as many others who came to help buff and dig before the big day. Also, HUGE thanks go out to Michael Tobler of E-13 Components, for all his support and donations for the day. Also, a huge thanks to Rocky Mountain Bicycle’s Richard Mullaly for donating a bike, and creating a raffle that generated an extra $1000 which basically doubled the take for the day. .
I witnessed a lot of generosity and it really showcased the good that lies within us all. Again I would like to thank Don Hampton and Francois Portmann for capturing the days events on film and video, as well as all the east Coast’s pro riders, enthusiasts, shop owners and riders that came together to be a part of something special.
