10 of the biggest drops in mountain biking

Drop it like it's hot

Jaws Szczeki – Road Gap

Jaws had been eyeing up this road gap since his father first pointed it out to him ten years ago. This year he dug out the landing and decided to just send it. It worked out great and he believes it’s the “sickest” gap he’s ever hit. Later in the video he suicide no-handers it too.

Brandon Semenuk – Chatel Style

Chatel style used to be one of the wildest freeride events on the calendar and featured giant man-made obstacles combined with steep Alpine hillsides to attract the world’s best slopestyle riders to the Portes du Soleil.

Semenuk wasn’t the only rider to hit this ramshackle wooden drop but he was the first, and that deserves some serious props.

Tyler McCaul and Graham Agassiz  – Red Bull Rampage qualifying 2015

2015’s Red Bull Rampage saw riders go bigger than ever before, this video is only of qualifying but riders were still left strewn across the mountain. Tyler’s El Presidente drop was the biggest line on the hill but an injury took him out of finals, while Aggy‘s drop was enough to secure first place in qualifiers.

On the line – Train Gap

Ok, confession time, we’re not actually sure who this rider is, but that doesn’t make the gap any less rad. The gap was originally built by the late, great Kelly McGarry before it was resurrected by this rider who duly sent it over a cargo train.

James Doerfling – Gettin’ it done

James Doerfling isn’t always in the media spotlight but when you can ride like this sometimes it’s just easier to let your bike do the talking. This edit is full of steep chutes, high speed lines and finishes on a huge natural step down.

Robbie Bourdon – New World Disorder 7

It wouldn’t be a New World Disorder film without a Robbie Bourdon segment and we reckon that one of his best came in the seventh instalment. It features Bourdon at the peak of his powers hitting huge drops, overshooting gaps and flowing down tech trails.

Daren Berrecloth – Where the trail ends

Where the Trail Ends pushed the boundaries of freeride in terms of progression and geography. Darren Berrecloth had to travel to the Gobi desert to find this road drop and it plagued him the whole trip. He was finally able to stomp it in the golden evening light before flowing through this closing line.

Cam Zink – Red Bull Rampage

There are so many Red Bull Rampage drops you could pick from with Cam Zink but we went with this one because it’s the most recent and it’s dirt-to-dirt which makes it that little bit more technical than the Oakley Sender drops, even if it isn’t quite as big.

Josh Bender – New World Disorder 2

Yes, we know this has the Jah Drop in but, to our mind, only drops that have been landed should count. Thankfully Bender has a wealth of them available as show here in New World Disorder 2. Love him or hate him, Bender was the closest thing this sport has ever had to Evel Knievel and very few will go as big as him, even today.
