The second instalment in the Dirt video advent calendar is this bizarre local story from earlier in the year. It’s not really mountain bikes, but it’s a great video regardless.
Here’s what we said back in June:
“Maybe it’s a slow noose day but we couldn’t help but share this awesome story about a rancher in Oregon.
When he saw a bike thief attempting to escape on foot in a Walmart car park, Robert Borba used the skills he had picked up in rodeo competitions to lasso the criminal from horseback and hold him captive for 15 minutes until the police arrived.
“I seen this fella trying to get up to speed on a bicycle,” Borba told the Medford Mail-Tribune. “I wasn’t going to catch him on foot. I just don’t run very fast. I use a rope every day, that’s how I make my living. If it catches cattle pretty good, it catches a bandit pretty good.”
The bike was returned to its owner and the criminal has been charged with theft – his chances of getting away with it must be hanging by a thread!”
