Bad news here in Fort William as the World Cup Qualifying that was scheduled for today has been forced to cancel due to high winds and generally grim conditions at the Nevis Range.
There have been rumours circulating about this eventuality since the first day of the event – the weather forecast really did not promise to treat us well – but now it is confirmed. As of 11 this morning the race organisers made the call to cancel today’s downhill proceedings. For that reason, qualifying will now take place tomorrow, Sunday June 7, early doors. Although the famously changeable Scottish weather has often played games with the World Cup, it’s the first time we can remember that it has caused a cancellation.
