Hannah Barnes: NorthWest – A mountain bike adventure through the Scottish Highlands

Hannah Barnes has been on a bit of an epic mountain bike adventure up the West coast of Scotland, taking in the incredible trails, scenery and beaches on the way, and luckily for us lot Cut Media were there to document it all. Get a cup of tea ready cos this is a long one, but it’s worth it…

Starting in arguably the most popular mountain bike destination in the UK, Fort William, Hannah embarked on a 250-mile trip up the West coast to Cape Wrath, the most North-Westerly point of the UK. The route took in both unknown trails and popular destinations including Glenfinnan, Torridon and Loch Maree. Over 5 days Hannah, followed by the Cut Media crew, faced the most diverse range of riding, conditions and terrain you will find and had a truly inspiring and fun adventure. Scotland really offered up some of the Worlds best terrain matched with some fantastic cultural locations along the way.

Hannah said of the trip, “after spending most of the year traveling abroad I really wanted to come home and go on a riding trip in Scotland, it’s only when you ride abroad so much you realise how good we have it at home. We all had such a fun trip, full of laughs and it was a real adventure. We took in such amazing trails, landscapes and people along the way!”

This short documentary has been shot by the team at Cut Media, the crew behind Steve Peat’s ‘Solo’ video and also the director of Danny Macaskill’s ‘Imaginate’. Cut Media head honcho and one of the filmer’s on the trip Stu Thomson said of the film; “this was really a fun personal project, I’d been talking to Hannah about it for ages! I love filming in the Scottish Highlands and I also don’t think there are many high quality mountain bike films being filmed with woman riders so that was also something we wanted to achieve as well. Hopefully we’ve done that!”

We reckon they have.
