Gareth Brewin & Joe Smith

ASOBP Section 2 - 5 Things you wouldn't know...

Words and Filming: Tom Caldwell
Photography: Ben Winder

Section two of A Slice of British Pie is another full throttle speed feast.  Now we all know Gareth Brewin as a digger driver, a bit of a drift king, and a huge petrol head. His section, in which he is joined by Chain Reaction ripper Joe Smith, is no exception, where his classic old Ford Sierra is slung around what looks like a Welsh rally stage. It turns out, that four people in a car and two bikes on the roof is plenty of weight for a good old Scandi flick. Accompanied by the picturesque Lake Vrynwy in Mid-Wales (don’t worry, there’re no nature shots), which provided us with some of Dan Athertons old enduro training grounds. Expect some leafy loam and a good dose of mossy hillsides.

HERE’S 5 THINGS ABOUT SECTION 2 YOU WOULDN’T KNOW WITHOUT FILM MAKER TOM CALDWELL TELLING YOU…

WE ENDED UP HAVING A VERY, VERY LONG LUNCH BREAK CREATING A WELSH RALLY STAGE IN THE SIERRA. THEN WE ACTUALLY REALISED WE WERE THERE TO FILM BIKES!

Gaz got a little too excited and nearly impaled himself on the very first shot!

We spent half the day clearing the tracks from high winds, usually needing 4 of us to lift each tree out of the way.

If you hadn’t noticed, Gaz’s hand is literally magnetised to the handbrake.

Gaz replaced the Diesel engine in the Sierra with a more powerful petrol engine. He now plans to convert it into a full rally spec Sierra with rollcage. Stay tuned, you’ll probably see more of that soon..
