Rad Company Interview | Brendan Fairclough

Brendan Fairclough is the only UK rider to feature in Brandon Semenuk’s latest release Rad Company. We sat down with him in the Fort William pits before the World Cup race last weekend and asked him what it was like filming for his segment.

He landed a cover of Dirt whilst out in Bali with Semenuk and what a cover it was too, we have a signed copy of that very mag to give away so keep an eye out for that soon.

INTERVIEW

Dirt: Your segment in Rad Company landed you a cover of Dirt, how was it out in Bali shooting with Brandon?

Brendan: It was incredible, a great experience and those guys at FreeRide Entertainment are an incredible crew , just awesome. Then you got Brandon, for me one of the most talented riders on a push bike in the world. It was cool to ride with him and rip around Fiji on some trails they built. From what I’ve seen so far it’s going to be pretty awesome what they have done with the movie Rad Company so I’m as excited as anyone to see it come out in a few days and just pretty stoked I got to be a part of it really. It was hard work, it was hot and humid with early mornings and late nights , when we were doing it we were kind of hating it when you are sweating and you can’t breath but the final product is going to be amazing so I’m really excited to see it.

Dirt: You were the only British rider on there, did you get to ride with any of the other guys or was it just you and Brandon?

Brendan: It was just me and him, we actually had another shoot planned in America but unfortunately we didn’t get to do that for a couple of reasons. It would have been cool to have two sections in there, being a bit greedy but having one section in there is cool.

Dirt: Any plans in the future

Brendan:None as of right now but I’d be excited to go back and ride with him and be part of what he does. Hopefully Ive got a few things coming up in the future that I might have to get him in involved in but for now nothing planned. Im’m going to focus on my racing and he is going to concentrate on his stunts and shit! It was an amazing opportunity and I’d do it again.

Dirt: Whats he like to ride with him?

Brendan: Yeah it was amazing, he’s an extremely calculated guy and you can see that in his riding. He just never really seems to put a foot wrong and everything is how he would say ‘scienced out’ you know he pretty much works everything out which is cool to watch and he has definitely got some balls on him, some skills and yeah it was a cool opportunity. You know we are both from completely different sides of the sport but obviously he has grown up in Whistler and for sure ridden a lot of downhill in his time and that shows when he rides a bike.

Dirt:Do you think you would beat him in a race?

Brendan: Aah I’d smoke him in a race but then it would come to the opposite way round, this is how I was thinking of it. If he was to do a DH race I would beat him by a long way but then if I did a Slopestyle race there would be no comparison and he would absolutely smoke me and I would look absolutely stupid and have to go home and cry.

Dirt: Was there anything he setup that you didn’t want to ride?

Brendan: Luckily not you know, I was thinking of that ‘cos he is in a league above in that sort of stuff but luckily there was’t anything too gnarly and just some cool little jumps everywhere and some fun stuff for us to play on. It was awesome, we had a great time and luckily there wasn’t anything too gnarly.

Dirt: Did anyone nail themselves?

Brendan: We had a couple of good crashes yeah, probably just down to tiredness and fatigue more than anything else really, you don’t really see that guy crash too much but he had a big one, I had a pretty big one over the bars into a lip, he washed out and ripped his elbow apart at super high speed u luckily we came out with no breaks just a few cuts.

Dirt: Have you got a favourite part in the film?

Brendan: Obviously my cover of Dirt Magazine was the icing on the cake, extreme happy about that and that’s definitely going up on the wall in my house. I think the but I’m looking forward to most in the movie is where Brandon rode with Aggy in Kamloops. I haven’t seen all the footage but I’ve seen some pictures and the bit where Aggy’s in the trailer doing some wild table on his downhill bike, pretty excited to see those boys ride Kamloops which is a place I’ve always wanted to go but never been yet so I’m excited to watch that and see what those boys do.

If you want to get hold of a the film then it’s out on iTunes now here
