Danny Hart & Scott Mears

ASOBP Section 4 - 5 Things you wouldn't know...

Words and Filming: Tom Caldwell
Photography: Dan Hearn

On the next stop for A Slice of British Pie we slowed it down a bit. I say that, it actually all sped up as we met up with none other than Danny Hart up in the North East. Trail bike cruising and slick singletrack at his stomping ground, Hamsterley Forest. Joined by the raddest bike shop owner ever and Newcastle tank, Scotty Mears, this was supposed to be the breather segment. That didn’t really happen. The boys from way up yonder really know how to hold it sideways, and build some sketchy old drops behind housing estates.

HERE’S 5 THINGS ABOUT SECTION 5 YOU WOULDN’T KNOW WITHOUT FILM MAKER TOM CALDWELL TELLING YOU…

Conditions were ridiculously greasy whilst filming with Danny. He did well to stay on his bike.

We trawled Hamsterley Forest for some hidden gems, which there we only a few of. We stayed away from the main tracks that everyone has seen a thousand times before.

Scotty actually brought a cyclocross bike to the shoot to see if we could get any footage on it. He tried riding through a stream on it in Chris Akrigg style, but it failed miserably.

SCOTT PUNCHED AN INCH LONG HOLE INTO HIS TYRE AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHICH OBVIOUSLY ENDED FILMING FOR GOOD. IT’S A GOOD JOB IT DIDN’T HAPPEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE DAY.

A lot of Danny’s section was filmed on the red trail at Hamsterley Forest. Check out his lines and see if you can hit them next time you ride there!

Big thanks to Bell Helmets and Zyro for help making this section come together. Watch the full film HERE.
