Val di Sole World Cup guide 2013

Just like a bus, we’ve been waiting ages for a World Cup and then as soon as one happens we have another!

This weekend sees the second round of the World Cup take place in Val di Sole which is home to a track that many consider to be the best on the circuit. It’s nothing short of a true test of downhill ability, and quite how Aaron Gwin managed to put almost 8 seconds into the rest of the competition last year on such a brutal and technical track is still a mystery. After his result at Fort William last weekend it’s going to be very interesting indeed to see what he can do in Val di Sole this year…

Aaron Gwin enroute to smashing the competition last year. Can he make a return to form there this year?

In the women’s race Rachel Atherton displayed a similar level of dominance by winning by almost 5 seconds. Can she make it two from two this weekend?

Anyway,if you’re wondering where Val di Sole is, then wonder no more…

The race is at a place called Commezzadura in Val di Sole, Trentino, northern Italy.

And if you’re planning on trying to get there, this map should give you an idea of the best routes.

And who would have thought it? After a blazing hot first round in Scotland it looks like the riders are heading south to Italy for a whole pile of rain, and possibly even thunderstorms! Even in the dry this track sorts the men from the boys, so god knows what it’ll be like if it pours it down.

Here’s Dirt Norco team rider Dan Stanbridge taking on the track in 2011 with his ‘talkie cam’.

And here’s Rob Warner taking on the track in 2010. Classic!

This is what the schedule is looking like for this year. Hopefully we will have some track walk photos and video for you later on today, and remember qualifying is on Friday!
