Nant Gwrtheyrn Uplift

Simply Downhill are holding another great value Uplift Day at the new UK venue, Nant Gwrtheyrn on Sunday 31st October. The £23 entry fee not only gets you a day of uplift assisted riding on one of the best tracks in the UK, but also a bacon sandwich when you sign on! For entry details please visit simplydownhill

Following the success of the 2 day race event Simply Downhill held there in August other organisers have taken an interest in using the venue. 2011 will see more great races races held at this fantastic venue including a round of the British Downhill Series. Simply Downhill are proud of the fact that with a lot of help and support Nant Gwrtheyrn has become a track to be worthy of national level racing. With a bit of extra practice at the uplift days, come race day you can get a bit closer to the current track record held by Josh Bryceland.

On the previous uplift days riders have managed up to 14 runs due to the fast uplift. The luxury coach drops riders off above the start so you can roll down and picks you up very close to the finish. The bikes are carried up using a tractor and trailer with protective sheets between the bikes to keep them safe from scratches.

Nant Gwrtheyrn is the Welsh Language Centre and makes a great venue for racing and uplift because of the great facilities there. The main car park is tarmac and there is a cafe and toilets on site. For spectators some of the best parts of the track are very easily accessible by just a short walk off the tarmac road into the woods. There is also great value, quality accommodation available which can be booked through the centre office (tel: 01758 750334)

The track itself is technically challenging for the top 2 thirds with plenty of line choice and natural features including the sections “Wet rocks”, “Car Crash Corners” and the infamous “Snooker Balls”. Once you get down to the stream crossing and over the bridge you hit a super fast disused fire road. The fire road is steep enough to carry loads of speed into the drifty turns followed by the sectioned know as “The Trail Centre”. Don’t let the name of this put you off as it is super fast and contains features that wouldn’t be allowed on the average red route! Getting close to the end of the track now there a 2 options of step down followed by a table top with different shape transitions across its take off. Hit the middle for maximum air and style points or the edge for low, fast racer style. Finally there is a fast grassy straight before dropping in and over the 2 wall drop/jumps and into the finish area. Here’s a vid from the race weekend…
