This is how the 4X course looked this morning, rivers and
puddles all over the place. It certainly didn’t look very inviting, but it did make for some great racing, slowing things down and making more lines equally fast. Or equally treacherous, depending on your point of view.

Damien Spagnolo was fast in timed runs on yesterdays dry and
dusty track. Things are totally different today where clouds of dust have been replaced by clouds of mist and spraying mud.

Like a summers day in north Wales, Gee Atherton is no
stranger to these sort of conditions. Gee is currently sitting in 3rd overall, 101 points behind Peaty and Minnaar. So the pressure must be on for him to start making up some ground if he wants to have a shot at the series win.

After this mornings practice, I thought I’d be real smart
and stay up on the track for lunch, so I’d be nice and early to set up for the qualifying runs. While setting up my flashes, it did seem a bit strange that the rock garden was so empty, no fans, no marshals, just a few folks hanging around. Then eventually somebody came by told us all that qualifiers were cancelled. Bummer. So in the absence of racers, some brave fans busted out a few runs on their ‘air bikes’. Yeah, like an air guitar but with wheels.

Caroline Buchanan had to search the pits and borrow some mud
tyres for her 4X bike. I guess she doesn’t need them much in Australia. All the same, she rode a steady race and stayed upright when others were diving
in the mud in front of her.

Joost ‘the boost’ takes his second world cup win this year,
moving up to second place in the overall rankings. But Graves still has a 200 point lead, which is pretty comfortable.
