Troy Brosnan, Ruaridh Cunningham and Mark Wallace to race for new Canyon Factory Downill Team

Canyon ready to send it on the World Cup circuit

Tory Brosnan, Ruaridh Cunningham and Mark Wallace have been announced as the new riders for a Canyon downhill team managed by Fabien Barel.

This is Canyon’s first foray into elite downhill racing following its huge success in enduro, slopestyle and road racing. The Canyon Factory Downhill Team will be racing on the recently released Sender downhill bike.

Troy Brosnan will be looking to challenge for the title on his new team after finishing third overall for the past two years aboard a Specialized Demo. He is also chasing his first World Cup win since Fort William in 2014.

Troy said: “It has been amazing for me coming to Canyon. It’s really like a small family where you know all of the right people, in all of the right places. If you want something done, it doesn’t have to go through too many people to actually get to the top.”

Cunningham was junior World Champion 2007, Hardline winner in 2015 and comes off his best season to date that saw him claim his first ever top 10 in Lenzerheide and finish 26th in the overall standings.

Wallace struggled last year following the tragic death of his close friend and team mate Stevie Smith. Wallace showed his true potential in 2015 though, picking up two top tens despite only being a second year Elite rider.

The team will be headed by World Cup legend Fabien Barel, who was instrumental in setting up Canyon’s enduro team. He helped design the Strive enduro bike and went on to win two EWS races on it. Barel’s input has also been instrumental to the Sender downhill bike, although he will not be racing it this time.

The teamwill be rounded out by manager Mathieu Gallean and mechanics Nigel Reeve, Aaron Pelttari and Yoann Jurgaud.

The CFDT will work with Mavic, SRAM, RockShox and Maxxis.

It looks like we’re due a battle of the German direct sales brands next year as Troy goes up against his former team mate Aaron Gwin on YT Industries. We can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
